It’s the Next Generation, Not the Next Election
The decision-making horizon of the old political parties is typically the next four years - an election cycle. But to build resilient, sustainable communities will require a long term vision with a commitment to the well-being not only of this generation but to that of even generations hence.
We want our children and grandchildren to thrive in the face of global change. This current generation has no right to limit their potential or their ability to thrive. We have no right to undermine the ecological life support systems on which we all depend, or destroy the spirit-lifting natural environment that we have taken for granted but which is fast disappearing. Nor do we have the right to impose on them the burden of a radioactive legacy, persistent pollutants, and gene-altering chemicals.
For the past half century we have been acting like there is no tomorrow. This has to change. Decisions made and actions taken today shape the future. Our commitment is to start taking responsibility for the legacy we will leave.
We offer you the inspiration, collaboration and hard work that it will take to see this commitment through. The goal of a bright, safe, fulfilling future for our children’s children is possible if we act now to make it so.
