I have a comment regarding the policy proposal on public auto insurance. I think overall the proposal is great, well-researched and well-written. However, I have a problem with the example of a 30-year-old making $50,000/year. I don't think there are too many 30-year-old NBers making that kind of money. According to Stats Canada, the median income in NB is $27,000 and there are only about 20% of income earners who make more than $50K. My guess is not many of these 20% of income earners are 30. I don't think that example, being so far off the reality in NB, speaks to "the people" who will be reading it and (hopefully) voting Green.
My suggestion would be using an example of a 30-year-old making $30K. This figure is probably more in line with what people can relate to. Over a 30-year span, that makes $900,000 and if you add medical expenses, etc, it would easily top $1,000,000, which is what most people have in liability. Or we could even say over a 35-year span and that would be over $1,000,000. The math doesn't work out quite as nicely but I think your point that $1,000,000 in liability is not enough can still be made...just with a few more words.

Hi Raissa, thank you for your thoughtful comment. You are right, I went with the easy math and to make a point re: amount of liability coverage needed. However, you are correct and I should have used a salary closer to the provincial average, e.g., the $30,000 you discuss below. I apologize for this and I will make this change in future iterations of the policy proposal.
You are welcome to post this response in your comments.
Regards, Scott
