Responding to a Warming Planet
The climate is changing and it’s because of our energy-intensive economy and consumer culture. The level of CO2 in the atmosphere is higher than at any time in the last 15 million years. We are all affected by the changing climate and resulting species loss, but our children and grandchildren will reap the whirlwind if we don't change direction quickly.
The Green Party has a plan for a green energy future based on energy conservation and renewable fuels. This is the cornerstone of any strategy to reverse global warming. The next most important step is to re-localize our economy. We need to become less dependent on large corporations and exports, and more self-reliant by building local enterprises to replace imports and provide more of what we need.
Each and every one of our communities can flourish by using their local resources sustainably for local benefit. Community forestry can replace industrial forestry. Sustainable agriculture can replace industrial agriculture. We have the skills and the desire to make community resources work for communities. We don’t need to sell off our future today for short term gain. Selling the farm is never an answer. As a matter of fact it will be our greatest failure to our children if we don’t take control now of what can be our greatest asset for New Brunswick’s future.

James Hansen: Why I must speak out about climate change (17 min video) www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWInyaMWBY8NB farmers have been experiencing heavier rainfalls and extended high moisture soil durations that stress the soil microbes and causes compaction when the field work is performed. Haying season has been pushed into August. Late Blight due to wet weather has plagued farmers. These events have been happening for the last 15 years. Normal weather during the summer is lessening. The extremes are more prevalent.
